To mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, Headstock has unveiled its latest mural which commemorates Kurt Cobain – 30 years after the iconic Nirvana frontman tragically took his own life.
Painted by the incredibly talented Akse P19 (Headstock’s long-time friend & collaborator), the mural can be found on the side of The Bread Shed, an independent live music venue situated just off Oxford Road, Manchester where Nirvana played their only two gigs in the city – Manchester Polytechnic (1989) and Manchester Academy (1991).
As with our previous murals of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis and The Prodigy’s Keith Flint, this mural has been created to raise awareness of mental health text support service, Shout. And as with our previous murals, the message is simple.
If you’re struggling to cope, please reach out & seek help. Simply text the word SHOUT to 85258 for free, confidential support, 24/7. Or if you work in the music industry text the word MUSIC to 85258 – at anytime, day or night.
A BIG thank you to everyone that donated to our Crowdfunder campaign – and to our friends at Skiddle who supported us in making this happen.
